There are just two simple knots to master, to make furoshiki bags and gift wrap. The single knot, and the square knot. The single knot uses one corner of the furoshiki. I fold the corner in on itself, once or twice, just as I would a paper aeroplane. Then I have a neat, flat, pointed fabric end to work with.
1. Lay the furoshiki point across your palm.
2. Wrap the furoshiki behind your hand and bring the point to the centre of your palm.
3. Tuck the point between the wrap of fabric and your palm, and gently pull it through to make a beautiful single knot, just like the one in the photograph.
Perfect! All you need to know now is how to make the square knot, and you'll be ready to make furoshiki!
