Our beautiful Byodo-in Fuji tenugui is a Zusetsu limited availability tenugui art print direct from Kyoto.

Byodo-in's Phoenix Hall is one of the few original Heian era temples remaining in the Kyoto area. It is possible that Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji may have walked here. In the summer, fuji wisteria cascades through the pergola overlooking this object of beauty, created to represent the Pure Land of Paradise.

The tenugui are made using old-fashioned looms in Japan. High quality threads are carefully woven with a little fluff for a long period of time. This creates a woven fabric that is finely textured and smooth to the touch.

These beautiful quality tenugui are mainly dyed with Yuzen dyeing, one of Kyoto's traditional dyeing techniques. Each colour has its own printing frame, and is printed layer by layer. This technique creates rich and vivid colour, and makes the beautiful design a truly lovely piece of wall art for your office or home.

* The Tenugui Wall-hanger Kit can be purchased separately here in store!

* This purchase does not include the frame, but you can read how to have your own one made on our About Tenugui page!
